Gift Ideas for Pilots 2018

You’re looking for something for the pilot in your life (and not the pilot of your next flight). What do they want? What should you buy them? Hint: They probably don’t want things shaped like aeroplanes – just like you wouldn’t want them to get you a gift shaped like an office or a computer. It’s hard to get around – you probably want to acknowledge that they’re aviators, without embarrassing them with a WORLD’S GREATEST PILOT mug. Read below for some more subtle gift ideas for pilots.

It’s hard to get around – you probably want to acknowledge that they’re aviators, without embarrassing them with a WORLD’S GREATEST PILOT mug. Read below for some more subtle gift ideas for pilots.

1. Arrivals and Departures Doormat

This doormat lets your pilot and their guests know whether they’re coming or going, and is likely to elicit a sensible chuckle from owner or guest on departure and arrival. It also stops people from bringing mud into the house, like all door mats.

2. Upgraded Flight Bag

This bag has 23 Storage Compartments. We’re not exactly sure whether your pilot will need 23 storage compartments. But they might. This bag is a modular system, built with professional aviators in mind, allowing them to add ever greater numbers of storage compartments should they wish.

3. Aviator Sunglasses

As an aviator, there are no potential issues with them wearing aviator sunglasses outside of work. It’s probably one of the ways pilots not-so-secretly signal to each other what they do for a living outside of cockpits. They also look pretty cool, so there’s that. These glasses may just be the reason they logged hundreds of hours in flight school.

4. Spare Flashlights

Pilots are often fond of pen shaped flashlights because they come in handy. They’re fond of holding them hygienically in their mouths, too (not sure why). Still, spare flashlights are always useful in the cockpit, so are certainly a practical gift for a pilot.

5. In the Cockpit 1 & 2

These books take you right inside the Smithsonian’s collection of historic and military cockpits, in glorious full color photography. This is the only way you can experience some of these archived aircraft, a perfect gift for the pilot who is also an aviation history buff.

6. Fighting Cockpits

This book details more military cockpits from world war 1 right up until the present day, which is perfect for an aviation history enthusiast.

7. Smartphone Controlled Paper Airplane Kit: Powerup 3.0

This paper aeroplane power-up kit turbocharges your adult-child pilot’s paper aeroplane into having a 55 meter range and boasts a crash resistant design.  The pilot then controls the plane in flight using their smartphone, tilting it like the aeronautical yoke of old. Sure to go down a treat (probably not in flames).

8. 4-pack of Durable White Airplane shaped Plastic Hangers

These airplane shaped hangers would make an ideal gift to the pilot in your life. The tail section of the hanger is genuinely quite handy for hanging their tie from. The hangers are very durable and capable of hanging multiple items of clothing from them, making them great value for money. If they are a little messy, it may even make them want to hang up their clothes rather than using a floordrobe!

9. Funny Pilot T-Shirt Airplane Flying Physics

The engines, wings and flaps work as one to generate the lift required to haul the airplane into the air. This airplane physics t-shirt outlines the fundamental calculations, with the caption “what part of this don’t you understand? It’s a sly in-joke for pilots, as the vast majority of people do not understand the calculations required.

10. Funny Pilot T-Shirt Airplane Flying Sky is the Limit

Another funny pilot t-shirt, though this one is a little less geeky than the previous item that we featured. It highlights how, for most of us, including this author, the sky is the limit. However, for Pilots, this is where they are most at home. The t-shirt itself has a tasteful graphic and is well reviewed by others on Amazon.

11. Pilot’s Pocket Handbook

All Pilot’s, from amateurs earning their wings, to experienced pilots with hundreds of hours of flight time can benefit from the Pilot’s Pocket Handbook. This book contains flight calculations, charts, a weather decoder and aviation acronyms. The book itself is highly praised by flying instructors and would make an invaluable addition to any Pilot’s flight bag.

12. Airplane Bottle Stopper

This silver airplane bottle stopper is perfect for an aviator who also appreciates a bottle of wine from time to time.
